Eid Mubarak & Patchwork galore

We have managed to get through the long bustling day's of Eid. Eid is always colourful and joyous, it's an action packed day full of...chocolates. The day's seem to fly past and before you know it Eid's over :( So that's one Eid down and another to go!

On another note, i heard back from Southall Black Sisters, and have forwarded my presentation notes to them. I really hope they are of help to them.

Patchwork Galore

Some funky cushion covers are must have, but what about patchwork? I mean, it's a simple yet elegant idea, isn't it? It doesn't take much to design a few patches, don them in embroidery and put them together, eh. They can also be made up of a variety of colours. Look at the photo's of my patchwork designed cushions.

Pretty aren't they?

The photo's don't really do justice to the cushion covers, but anyway...The main theme of the back cushion is red, with a splash of golds, pinks and oranges. The one on the right has a main theme of green, again with a splash of golds and reds.

Close up's...

This is a close up of the reddish cushion cover, but that doesn't necessarily mean RED and just RED. The colour variety can be seen in the photo, but maybe having flash on would have done a better job...

A little better
I find the green one prettier than the red one, that's not only because of the colour variety but also the designs which seem to be more elegant. The cushion covers also seem to have an East meets West theme going on.   It's a pretty idea and i really do wonder who made them? Because they were a housewarming present, a very pretty one as well. This has inspired me to create my own patchwork cushion. It is in the process...may take a little longer than anticipated though. I have started off with a blue cotton patch, which i hope to share with you all in due course. That reminds me i need to buy some more coloured skeins and maybe some more haberdashery. I should really share with you all my bead box, yup i have one. Check back maybe, for more posts on my patchwork project :) and perhaps a more detailed Eid post...if you lucky ;-)

Cheerio for now :) x

Mind Boggling

It's funny how lying in bed at night, a million ideas for my next blog post fly into my head. The minute i start writing a post i'm lost for words :( Hmm,

Anyway, the past few day's I've been carrying out some Eid preparation duties. But i found some room in between preparation to do something which i have been meaning to do for some time. As part of my first year workload at uni, I was supposed to do a presentation, no not on anything i wished but on LAW!? I am a curious reader about cultural taboos and drawn to issues surrounding domestic violence. So the topic i chose was based on a new legislation 'Suicide aggravated by Harassment or violence' the campaign to launch the legislation is in the hands of Southall Black Sisters. This is a womens group which help Asian women flee domestic violence and forced/arranged marriages. I shall now give you all some background info....So SBS's campaign was at the center of my presentation. The reason for them launching the campaign was due to the unfortunate events which led Nosheen Azam, a newly married 23 year old to burn herself alive. Nosheen's suicide bid was unsuccessful, but today she lies in a hospital bed with 60% burns and is brain dead. Her father describes her as 'a living corpse'. Therefore, i integrated my curiosity of cultural taboos with Law. Yup, it can be done.

Sooo, that was my topic for my presentation. You can e-mail me for more info, if interested :) My mum suggested around the time of my presentation to get in touch with SBS and highlight some of the issues which arise with the proposed legislation, which i presented. So today i decided to take the plunge and contact them. They ave sent me a confirmation e-mail for my inquiry and will soon be in touch. I plan on e-mailing them the notes which i used for my presentation. :) Hopefully i will be of help to them in some form and hope they continue their hard work and dedication to help women.

British weather can't be trusted, it's mid August but we're still running though phases of extreme sunshine and horrendous rain showers!?! It has also just dawned on me that i have like a month until uni starts. It's a case of mixed emotions - I'm happy to be going back, but dread the workload of second year. I am also planning on going back to the library after Ramadan and Eid and start my reading for uni.

I will hopefully update you all with a Eid post, preferably some photo's of who wore what! But this will probably be after Sunday now guys. Until then I shall continue with 'taking a hiatus' :) x

P.s As you probably noticed, I have yet again changed the blog layout. This was because i am getting bored with the polka dots :( Fingers crossed the new layout and design are staying put x

Pink & Grey x

Since some of you might have gathered, the blogger template had been down for some time. It finally started working about a week ago, at first i made do with a simple template. But, i thought i'd go advanced today and choose some dynamic views. So the blog, has ended up having a new look. I have gone with a simple pink and grey theme, but the dynamic views are flabbergastingly superb! What do you all think? The polka dot design is cute yet so simple, and pink and grey is just so super duperly cute!

Enjoy the new look :) x

Choices...Choices...and more Choices?!?!?

I've been burdened with enough paperwork before second year of uni commences. The positive aspect get's a reaction of Woohoo!!! One year down and three more to go!! BUT, this means choices, time is nearing so the sun goes down and the stars come out!! I have started to review my career plans, so that i am sure i am on track. I got my timetable for my second year today, and the first thing i spot is that i have TWO late finishes at 4.15pm and 5.15pm, i suppose it's not too bad. But, a 9.15am start and 5.15pm finish is just a little hectic, don't you think? I am soooo not looking forward to lectures at 9.15, but then again i suppose it's better to get lectures out of the way early in the morning.

On the plus side, i have Wednesdays off. WOOHOO!!! And i'm only in for an hour on Fridays, not too bad i suppose. HOWEVER,

"IMPORTANT NOTE
These timetables are currently work in progress and therefore MAY CHANGE prior to you starting your studies at University in September. For example, some groups will not be finalised until induction week."

So, seen as i am warming to the new timetable, fingers crossed it doesn't change. I like Wednesdays off....snooze time!

Holidays have felt as if something is missing....i think i actually miss the workload of uni. It does keep me occupied. I am actually looking forward to going back to uni in September...Geek? I know :) x
